Origin: 1972 Dunton Gem Mine Find - Newry, Maine - USA
Comments:
One of the most famous gem discoveries in American history: The 1972 tourmaline find in Newry. Room-sized cavities overflowing with watermelon, and green tourmaline were found, and turned out to be some of the richest, most vibrant colors of any tourmalines in the world.
The material from that find can still be found in some jewelry and rock shops in Maine, and sometimes for sale as part of old collections, but the rarity of it increases yearly.
This is a great example of the richness of color. The very slight inclusions shouldn't bother you in the final gem. I estimate a great recovery, and you should be able to precision-cut a half+ carat gem without breaking a sweat.
