I began my career accidentally, as a hobby— hiking through the hills of Maine and New Hampshire and searching for all types of wonderful, natural crystals. At the time, I was particularly interested in topaz, amethyst, aquamarine, and fluorite.
I always gravitated to the small, perfect crystals. They mesmerized me with their form and clarity. It’s hard to believe that they just happen in nature, on their own. So it's no accident that my love of natural gem materials eventually brought me to the small shop of a jeweler on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia while my wife and I traveled through on a work visa.
There, I learned jewelry fabrication skills from the gracious and talented shop owner Knut Mueller. Over the course of a busy and challenging four-month apprenticeship, I spent over 65O hours of hands-on skill development, growing both my knowledge and passion. Upon returning to the Northeast USA, I continued to make jewelry, and discovered gem cutting while working at a jewelry store / mini-museum in Oxford County: Maine’s renowned gem country.
There, my artistic abilities, which I have been aware of, and working on, merged with my abilities in geometry, which I had no idea existed, previously. I found that the process of ‘discovering’ how amazing each gem could be was overwhelmingly exciting. Each piece is a collaboration with nature.
Over the last 5 years working for myself, I have continued to develop my skills, and knowledge in the ever-changing world of colored gemstones, add to my portfolio of jewelry designs, and find the world’s most unique and interesting gem crystals. This website aims to bring you the very best of my carefully crafted works, and mineral discoveries. Please enjoy the curated spectrum of color and light found here.
