Origin: Songea, Tanzania
Comments:
Songea is more commonly known for it's excellent quality sapphires, but there are other collector's gems and crystals in the area as well.
This aquamarine is a fine specimen - It has excellent tabular form, which makes it very suitable for making into jewelry as-is. It has crisp, sharp crystal edges, until the termination, which is pleasingly etched. It looks somewhat amorphous, but the closer you look, the more you see the 'melted' look of the crystallization. It is very dynamic in person.
The color is a medium-light green, and contained inside the crystal are bands of schiller stacked along the length of the crystal, somewhat like sheets of rain falling within.
The overall feel of the gem is great; it's damage-free, and really visually interesting.
