Gems that do tricks are the best. This is available as either facet rough or as a secimen. Personally, I think it makes for an outstanding thumbnailspecimen. It's a great size and aesthetic to sit proudly in a thumbnail collection, or any collection, really. Especially one that you are trying to liven up!!
In daylight, there is a faint yellowish glow in this piece. Thats the UV rays in the light reacting with the uranium in the opal. Under a blacklight the green is EXPLOSIVE and rather amazing to behold, knowing it's a completely natural gem.
Yes, you did read that right. the UV light reacts with trace amounts of uranium trapped i the opal, and the glow is the super fun result! Don't worry, though, these opals have a very low, safe, background level of radiation, similar to granite countertops. No need to wear a lead apron to appreciat these, as they are totally fine to have around you, your pets, and your chillens!
