Here is a topaz crystal to get lost in -- It's water clear, colorless, and it has incredibly detailed etchings all over it, top to bottom. . There are one or two very minor inclusions, but otherwise, the whole crystal is eye clean.
Everywhere you look, there are uniquely detailed markings. This gem crystal must have been forming inside a cavity that contained an acidic hydrothermal liquid. There are little internally crystallized 'hopper' cavities, and lots of parallel striations, and other details of crystallized layering.
To me, this crystal looks like an ice flame -- an impossibility, yes, but fun to think about, and look at anyways.
I enjoyed looking at this crystal under magnification for quite some time. In-hand it's brightness is apparent, and stands out. This would make an excellent addition to a crystal collection.
