Comments:
These three quartz points were all gathered together from my bench. Each of them had high hopes of being utilized by me for jewelry many years ago, when I was doing a lot more unique jewelry, and a lot less gem faceting.
These days I still long to create with them, but I have gathered / amassed / hoarded enough odd projects that I just inow I wont get to do some of them. So I am happy to release these awesome pieces back into the wild for another creative jeweler hopefully, but really anybody who will appreciate them.
The Amethyst crystal is from Guerrero, Mexico, and is a signature deep, vevety gem purple. The crystal ends with the purple as a fantstic, and I do mean epic phantom -- there is a totally clear cap on the inner purple. It looks like a purple pyramid trapped in glass at the top. And the rest of the crystal itself is as clean as you can hope for, which is to say, absolutely completely gem clean. There is even a pink flash to it. It's probably the cleanest, nicest amethyst rough I have on offer right now. It has some chips and dings on the outside. It ALMOST stands up as a thumbnail specimen, but for my mind, it has just one or two too many dings to be considered a high end thumbnail, though thats what it really wants to be.
The dumortierite included quartz crystal is all natural, including the point and all of the sides. The bottom, where the dumortierite sprays originate, I have free-form faceted three large facets, WITH a good polish. My idea was to clean it up enough to be easily set into a pendant made from gold sheet. It still would love to have that be its home!! I just know I am not going to get to it. To the next owner: enjoy!
The 'disco fire' hematite quartz is just really neat material. This one is cleaner than average, though it still has a few dislocations, and so I wouldnt call it facet rough. It's nice enough that it wants to be SOMEthing, but I just never figured out what.
