Hidden within this gem, there is a fantastic trio of smokey and amethyst streaks in the crown, centered. Most of the time, the gem is a solid purple color, but if you tilt the stone, and look at a shallow angle, you will see three parallel strips of color. It is a really neat thing to look at.
This is one of my last few pieces of Deer Hill Amethyst from the original, and still amazing, cavern of amethyst discovered in Stow, Maine in 1992 by Gary Howard and crew. I do have some of Gary's more recent amethyst production from Colton hill in 2017. That material will also gain value over time, as the mining there has ceased, and the mine sold.
