Comments:
I'm to going to parse words here, this sapphire is black, for the most part. Some times it'll show rich blue undertones, as well as black, but in general -- just black. HOWEVER -- When it catches even a little ray of light it shoots crazy bright, vivid blue lasers out of the depths. I would even wager a guess that you could see the blue flashing in this black gem from across the room, it's that noticeable. You'll wonder where the charger is for this powerful light.
I cut this in my studio in Vermont in the middle of 2023, and am just getting to posting it now. I've been looking forwards to photographing it because it's SO playful with both it's depth AND it's amazing color. It's very clean, too, with just a little inclusion near the edge in one or two places, completely invisible to the unaided eye. I believe the streakiness of the blue facets in the pictures is due to the fuzz in the gem jar, and the distortion that the brightness of the blue provides. It could also be some unseen silk or something, but I don't believe so, having cut the gem myself, and not noticed any silk then.
