Pyrite crystals are NOT my usual type of thing to offer her on my website... But just LOOK at this thing! It has three distinct growth habits - botryoidal concretion, cascading spiraling druzy formation, and large, defined single crystals, all intergrown in a 'ball' type formation.
Nature is AMAZING!
They find these concretions in the eroding sedimentary / shale rock at a beach, near the city of Port Au Port. They weather out yearly, due to natural oceanic erosion, and can be collected. Specimens collected here in this way are usually worn, or damaged, but you can work them free from the host rock, too, and then bead blast away the shale to reveal immaculate, glorious specimens. There are all kinds of crystal habits in the specimens from this location, and they are some of the most interesting pyrite formations I have ever seen.
This piece is ideal for a collection, even a good pyrite collection could accommodate this masterpiece of nature. The balance of shapes and textures, plus the absolute lack of damage makes this a new favorite of mine! I will enjoy it a lot, until the day I sell it.
