Gem: Tourmaline
Weight: 6.65 ct.
Dimensions: 25 x 15.5 x 2.4 mm (a little thinner at the edges)
Clarity: SI - clean for a tourmaline slice / leaf carving like this
Treatments: none
Origin: I want to say Rubaya mine, in DRC because my supplier works with that material far more often, but this TYPE of tourmaline carving is much more common of older tourmaline coming from Brazil -- so in this case, while I believe it is one of those two spots, I can't say for sure.
Comments:
I do love cool carvings like this, but I rarely sell them because while some of them are exquisite, there are a lot of goofy, sloppy carvings out there too.
I personally found this one to be really regal. It has a good taper to its shape, it has a lot of detail at the edges, and on the veins, and center stem. It's really captured the movement of a leaf, or petal.
The color is a medium-rich pink, almost entirely, but to my eye, there looks to be juuuust the remnants of a light green at one edge near the top. It's not something that you see without concentrating.
